Canon Powershot G9 or Canon Powershot G10
Q:Canon Powershot G9 VS. Canon Powershot G10 Digital Camera?—By o_oii
I am a new beginner photographer, I really like both of these cameras, but I cant really tell / decide what one is better.I am interested in all types of photography, photographing people, landscapes, everything…
If you own one of these or have used these cameras, what one do you think provides best performance?also feel free to suggest other good semi - professional digital cameras. But remember, I would still like for the main question to still be answered 1’s

I still own my old 4MP Canon G3 and it was a very good camera in it’s time. It even had a faster lens (F2.0-F3.0) and a remote control, which you won’t find on any of the newer G series cameras. Anyway, it’s just sitting around in a bag doing nothing these days because I have moved on…
The G9 and G10 are definitely NOT semi professional cameras. They are really not that much better than a lot of other point & shoot type cameras (because they have a very small sized sensor). The only real similarity they have compared to semi pro or pro cameras are their ability to shoot in RAW and that they have a hotshoe (for external flash). However the image quality they produce in no way compares to a dSLR camera.
But, either should be perfectly fine for general everyday use, especially in good outdoor lighting, but they do not have good high ISO capability…making low light shooting a challenge. Also you would always need to shoot in RAW to get the very best out of them.
The G10 has not been reviewed as yet, so you should wait till it comes out before making a final decision. The G9 and G10 both feature IS (optical image stabilization) which is a big plus. And the G10 also includes the new Digic IV processor, so it will be interesting to see how it handles image quality, especially noise.
You know…for less than a couple of hundred dollars more, you could probably buy an entry level dSLR (from either Canon or Nikon) and that’s what I recommend you do if you want better image quality and performance. The G10 has 14.7MP. If you want that many MP, buying a dSLR is a better option (even a dSLR with less MP will still be much better).
good luck…

The G7,9 and 10 concept is not in my opinion, to be compared with DSLR cameras. I have Canon 40D and G7. I bring G7 with me like celular phone, everywhere..small, fast, easy to use, no dust on sensor problem, movie clips..while the photos are superb for A4 print.
